I am certified in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. EFCT is an approach to couples therapy that has been studied and empirically validated by randomized controlled trials. I will work with you to help you identify the patterns that you fall into in your relationship that leave you feeling disconnected from one another. Disconnection can show up either in heated arguments or in quiet feelings of isolation from the person who used to matter most. I will help you explore the emotions and attachment styles that drive your patterns. I will then gently guide you in experimenting with new ways to express yourself more fully to your partner so that you can both feel understood.
I began my foray into EFCT over ten years ago and it has transformed how I work with couples. This method has taught me how to move beyond the “problem of the day” and address the root causes of couple dissatisfaction. I am continuously touched and humbled as I watch the couples that I work with turn towards each other, break free of repetitive negative patterns of interaction, and take the risks to build emotional intimacy.
